Lunch on the Lake

Today was another day of wedding preparations.  We started out our morning with a little baking for the following day's rehearsal dinner.  Kristen worked on the brownies and angel food cake, while I was put to work creating the bagel crisps.  While all the yummy items were cooling (and myself and the entire family were threatened with unimaginable acts if we ate any) Kristen and I headed out the front porch for some work on centerpieces.  Kristen recruited her younger brother Matt, who I knew from our years at UVM, to help with the process.

The centerpieces were bowels of lemons and limes, coordinating with the summer-time yellow and green theme.  The citrus had been purchased in bulk and stored in Kristen's parents' cellar.  But before it could make it's appearance at the wedding, it needed some spurcing up.  This came in the form of a good soak and scrub in baking soda and water and a rub down and some drying time on the front porch.  Matt was a great sport and excellent company, as we spent some time teasing Kristen together.

With all of tomorrow's food safely stored away and the lemons and limes back in their boxes Kristen and I headed out for our day's activities.  Our first stop was at the hair dresser's who would be doing Kristen's hair do for the wedding day.  We spent some time chatting with the other clients and looking through a series of fairly out-dated (the 1980's are still alive!) hairstyle books.  It was certainly a trip!  Kristen ultimately decided on a simple pulled back look and we were on our way.

Our afternoon stop was at the family lake house of one of the other bridesmaid's, Diana.  Her family has a gorgeous house right on the Caspian Lake, not to far from the Highland Lodge, where Kristen spent many of her summers (and winter breaks) working.  Both Kristen and Diana grew up in this area and remember many summer days spent at this lovely location.  It was a wonderful place for the bridesmaids to gather for a little Lunch on the Lake.

We met Diana, Kristen's sister Sarah and Kat here for an afternoon of wine, cheese and other delectable treats.  We spent most of the afternoon chatting, getting to know each other and enjoying the spectacular view!

As late afternoon/early evening rolled around we headed off to our final task for the day.  In anticipation of the wedding, Kat and I had teamed up and rented a two-bedroom condo at Jay Peak, where the reception would be held.  While our husbands were not yet with us, we had opted to start our stay tonight, so that we would be ready to go for the upcoming days preparations.  Wanting to get a head's start on the following day's reception hall decoration, Kristen had loaded her car with all of the favors, centerpieces and decorations (as well as me, Kat and all of our luggage!) and drove us up to Jay Peak to spend the night with us.  Our adventures didn't stop there.  Once we arrived, checked in and found our way through the construction we finally found our lovely condo.  It had just about everything we could want: a full kitchen, lovely porch, a living room with a fire place, TV, DVD player and iPod speakers.... oh and two bedrooms: one with a king bed and one with two double beds.  The hotel had failed to mention this fact at the time of booking.  While this worked out ideally for three ladies, it wasn't quite what two married couples were looking for.  After a bite of dinner at the pub at the bottom of the hill, Kat and I contacted the front desk, and were assured the situation could all be sorted out in the morning.  We headed to bed with the anticipation of all of the following day's activities, and the excitement of getting our sleeping situation sorted out.
